Consistent progress as part of BMW EfficientDynamics also benefits the new diesel powertrain for the BMW 7 Series. An extensively enhanced combustion engine is supported in the new BMW 740d xDrive by the latest 48-volt mild hybrid technology with an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This results in a maximum output of 220 kW/300 hp and a maximum torque of 670 Nm. The BMW 740d xDrive's 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel features new steel pistons that enable particularly high combustion pressure and help optimize drive acoustics. Compared with the predecessor engine, the effectiveness of oil separation has also been increased. The new common-rail direct injection system now operates with solenoid valve injectors. They ensure up to twelve injections per operating cycle with a maximum pressure of 2,500 bar.
