Pula, a coastal city at the tip of Croatia's Istrian peninsula, is known for its protected harbor, numerous beaches and ruins dating back to Roman times. The city area was settled already in prehistoric times. Throughout history, Pula has been occupied, destroyed and rebuilt several times because of its strategic location. Both the Romans and the Ostrogoths, the Venetians and the Allies in World War 2 once ruled in the city.
