Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck - development in full swing

Quelle: AUTOMOTOTV (Glomex)

The first fuel cell prototypes of the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck have already been undergoing intensive testing since last year - both on the company's own test track and on public roads. In the development of hydrogen-based drive systems, Mercedes-Benz Trucks prefers liquid hydrogen (LH2). In this state of aggregation, the energy carrier has a significantly higher energy density in relation to volume compared to gaseous hydrogen. As a result, more hydrogen can be transported, which significantly increases the range and thus enables the vehicle's performance to be comparable to that of a conventional diesel truck. The development goal of the production-ready GenH2 truck is a range of up to 1,000 kilometers and more. The start of series production for hydrogen-based trucks is planned for the second half of the decade.
