Porsche 911 Dakar - Walkaround with Frank Moser, head of the 911 and 718 model series

What immediately catches the eye about the Porsche 911 Dakar is its ground clearance: It is 50 millimeters higher on the Dakar than on a 911 Carrera with sports suspension. In addition, the standard lift system can raise the front and rear by a further 30 millimeters. This brings ground clearance and ramp angle up to the level of classic SUVs. The lift system is not only used to slowly negotiate obstacles, but is an integral part of the retuned chassis. The "high level" setting is available up to a speed of 170 km/h for ambitious off-road driving. If this speed is exceeded, the car automatically lowers back to normal level. The sporty off-road appearance is matched by the specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires, in 245/45 ZR 19 at the front and 295/40 ZR 20 at the rear. The coarse tread has a depth of nine millimeters, the reinforced sidewalls and the treads consist of two carcass layers. This makes the tire for the Porsche 911 Dakar suitable for challenging off-road conditions and exhibits high cut resistance. Pirelli P Zero summer and winter tires are optionally available, also with two carcass plies. The standard tire, however, is the all-terrain tire, which also offers sports car-like dynamics on asphalt.
