With the RS Torque Splitter, the RS 3 performance edition uses a technology that increases stability – for example, in wet conditions – and enhances agility, reducing understeer during dynamic driving. This is achieved by actively and fully variably distributing the drive torque between the rear wheels using two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches. A maximum of 50 percent of the drive force reaches the rear axle, temporarily up to 100 percent on the outer rear wheel in RS Torque Rear mode. This allows for drifts on closed tracks. In combination with the RS Performance Mode, the Torque Splitter distributes the drive torques so precisely between the rear wheels that a nearly neutral driving behavior with minimal understeer and oversteer is created, ensuring optimal performance on the racetrack. This enables earlier acceleration at corner exits and faster lap times.
