New vehicles drive autonomously at the BMW Group Regensburg plant

As part of the BMW iFACTORY, the BMW Group is consistently driving forward the digitization and automation of its production processes and has been piloting the automated driving of new vehicles in the plant environment (AFW) since 2022, initially in Dingolfing and Leipzig – and now also at the BMW Group Regensburg plant: Since the beginning of the year, the produced new vehicles move through the plant as if by magic – driverless, safely, and efficiently. For the first time, they also drive autonomously outdoors. Because the path that the finished automobiles travel without a driver takes them from the finishing line to loading and further transport through a roller shutter gate out of the assembly hall onto a large open space, the trailer yard.
