The BMW Group Leipzig plant is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. High-ranking representatives from politics, business, and society congratulated the plant today on its success story, including State Secretary Barbara Meyer for the Free State of Saxony and Leipzig's Lord Mayor Burkard Jung. Both emphasized the high importance of the plant settlement for the economic development of the Leipzig/Halle region as well as for the entire Free State. The Production Board Member of BMW AG, Milan Nedeljković, emphasized the pioneering spirit and high flexibility as success factors of the plant. Since 2005, almost 4 million vehicles have rolled off the production line at the Leipzig plant. The BMW Group has invested over 5.6 billion euros in the location so far, creating 6,680 BMW jobs. In total, over 11,600 people work on the factory premises. The plant has been continuously expanded and positioned to be future-proof in terms of efficiency, flexibility, and innovation. Leipzig is now the only plant in the BMW Group where vehicles of the BMW and MINI brands are produced on a single line - depending on customer preference with all types of drives: combustion engine, hybrid, or electric drive.
