Holstenstrasse in Kiel was one of the first streets in Germany to become a pedestrian zone over 70 years ago. The traditional shopping street, like many others, has long been struggling with increasing vacancies. City marketing is trying to attract new tenants for the retail space with promotional projects. The retailers want to defy the competition from the internet with new concepts.
