The Viernsheim Chess Club won the German Team Cup at the final weekend in Augsburg, defeating defending champion OSG Baden-Baden in a nerve-wracking third tiebreaker. The duel was considered a true David vs. Goliath match, as Baden-Baden is referred to as the 'Bayern Munich' of German chess. Žarko Vučković of the Augsburg Chess Friends also caused a stir by pulling off a coup against the world's number nine despite being knocked out in the semifinals.
