Positive Balance: First Results of the Pilot Project Badebucht Altmühlsee

In the Lake Center Schlungenhof at the Altmühlsee, a bathing bay was completed at the end of April. This was intended to offer a bathing opportunity even during blue-green algae blooms. For this purpose, two diving walls were installed, which were fastened with steel cables to foundations. The first conclusion of the pilot project: Despite the extremely hot summer, there were positive results. Compared to other bathing areas at the Altmühlsee, bathing was possible on a total of 19 days - without bathing warnings or bans. The project was financed by the Water Management Office together with the Zweckverband Altmühlsee. However, there are also possibilities for optimization, as the phosphorus concentration in the bathing bay also increased due to sediments on the bottom. This can lead to a deterioration in water quality.
