Honey is one of the few natural foods that do not spoil over time. It is produced by bees from the nectar of flowers and can be preserved for centuries with proper storage without losing its properties. This longevity is due to its unique composition: high sugar content, low humidity, high acidity, and the presence of hydrogen peroxide, a natural antimicrobial substance. The common crystallization that occurs over time is not a sign of quality loss; simply warming the product in a water bath is enough to return it to a liquid state. To keep honey in perfect condition, we recommend storing it in a sealed glass container protected from light and moisture. Even though an expiration date is indicated on the packaging for legal reasons, it is safe to consume when stored properly. Honey also has many health benefits: it soothes coughs, aids in the healing of minor wounds, boosts the immune system, and promotes digestion due to its natural prebiotics. Despite all its advantages, it is not recommended for children under one year of age due to the risk of botulism.
