It can be difficult to fall asleep when it's hot outside. Therefore, try these tips to keep a cool head and have a good night's sleep. For optimal sleep quality, the temperature in your room should be between 16 and 19 degrees Celsius. So, a cool room is the key to a restful sleep when it's hot. Air conditioning is a quick but also very expensive and environmentally harmful solution. Therefore, open the windows a few hours before bedtime to cool the room. Also, during the day, close your curtains or blinds to keep the heat out. Use cool bedding that doesn't trap heat, such as lightweight cotton fabrics, and wear light clothing. A 2016 study found that participants were able to fall asleep faster by wearing lighter, breathable materials. Resist the urge to take a cold shower before bedtime and instead take a warm shower. The warm water increases the circulation in your hands and feet, allowing heat to escape from the body more quickly. Avoid exercising before bedtime, as this raises body temperature and heart rate. So if you must exercise in the evening, do so at least an hour before bedtime.
