The autumn marks the beginning of the respiratory virus season, where colds, flu, and other infections quickly spread in schools and households. A new study in the journal Pediatrics confirms what many already suspect: the youngest children carry the most germs. Researchers found that preschool and elementary school children had the highest virus detection rates compared to older students and staff. Dr. Jennifer Goldman from Children's Mercy Hospital explains that young children can catch up to ten respiratory viruses per year while their immune system builds resistances.
