Ceres Award: Young farmer from Carinthia is Pig Farmer of the Year
Quelle: AGRARHEUTE (Glomex)
With his 26 years, he is still quite young, but anything but a greenhorn. Michael Skuk manages a farm with pig breeding in the closed system including slaughter and direct marketing in Neuhaus, Austria, near the Slovenian border. Last year, he built a modern animal welfare stable for his sows, which uses the Welcon farrowing system, allowing the sows to farrow freely. Sustainability was a major concern for the young farmer during the stable construction. The entire stable is made of wood and was manufactured by local companies.
