Does Cardio on an Empty Stomach Help with Weight Loss?

Quelle: VIDEOELEPHANT (Glomex)

Training on an empty stomach is experiencing a resurgence on social media. The idea behind it is that you burn more fat before breakfast. Studies show that the body does indeed use more fat as an energy source at this moment. However, this does not automatically lead to greater fat loss in the long run. The body finds ways to compensate for this and balance energy expenditure throughout the day. In other words, burning fat during exercise does not guarantee lasting results. Eating before or after exercise can improve performance, especially during longer training sessions. The difference is minimal for short sessions. Even strength training shows no significant differences between training on an empty stomach or after a meal. Studies do not report relevant changes in strength, muscle mass, or performance. Some people experience hunger, headaches, or nausea when training on an empty stomach. Others report well-being and normal performance. The most important thing is to move at all. The timing, what you eat before or after, or whether you train on an empty stomach does not make such a big difference. If skipping breakfast helps you to exercise, go ahead. If not, eat something light and enjoy your workout without guilt.
