The Air India Flight AI171 to London crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, killing at least 290 people. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with 242 passengers and crew on board disappeared from radar less than a minute after takeoff. The aircraft climbed to only 190 meters before issuing a Mayday call and crashing to the ground. It crashed into the hostel of BJ Medical College and Hospital, igniting a huge fireball and killing the residents on the ground. The footage shows the aircraft struggling for altitude, its tail sagging, before disappearing behind buildings and bursting into flames. Among the dead were Indian, British, Portuguese, and Canadian nationals, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Only one passenger, British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, survived and is recovering in a hospital. Dozens of medical students were injured, some in critical condition. The charred fuselage of the aircraft was found embedded in concrete, and rescue workers found burnt bodies and scattered debris. Investigators are looking into mechanical failure, human error, or possible manufacturing defects. The crash has reignited safety concerns about Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. Both the Indian and British governments have expressed their deep regret over the tragedy.
