Boris Pistorius, the German Defense Minister, has traveled to Kiev for political talks and arrived there on Thursday morning (12th). He wanted to assess the situation in the country and discuss possible additional support from Germany with the Ukrainian leadership. During his visit, Pistorius met, among others, his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umjerow. At a joint press conference with President Zelensky, Pistorius announced that Germany plans to provide an additional 1.9 billion euros to Ukraine for military support - mainly for long-range weapons. This would increase the total amount of German military aid for 2025 to around nine billion euros, pending approval by the Bundestag. At the same time, Pistorius categorically denied speculations about a possible delivery of Taurus cruise missiles. When asked, he explained that there are currently no considerations to supply these weapons to Ukraine - although they have long been requested there to be able to target strategically important targets deep in Russian territory. With his visit, Pistorius underscores Germany's ongoing commitment to Ukraine, which makes a significant contribution to the war against Russia even without Taurus deliveries.
