Thousands of UK young doctors strike for pay increase

British doctors launch a five-day strike after talks with the Labour government for a new pay rise failed to reach a deal, arguing that their pay in real terms has eroded by more than 21 percent over the past two decades. Resident doctors, those below consultant level, are out on picket lines outside hospitals carrying placards saying "passion does not pay bills" and "cuts so deep not even a surgeon can fix it". IMAGES
