Driest desert in the world blooms in Chile following rare rainfall

The Atacama Desert in Chile, despite being known as the driest nonpolar desert in the world, recently sprung to life after rare rainfall inundated the area. White and purple flowers have spread over 100 square miles in an event called the 'desierto florido', or desert bloom.
