The Australian actress Cate Blanchett is seriously considering giving up acting and admits she does not feel entirely comfortable in her role as a celebrity. In advance of her upcoming role in the BBC 4 radio play 'The Fever', Blanchett told Radio Times journalist Gareth McLean that she plans to retire from acting. Blanchett told McLean that her family 'rolls their eyes' every time she brings up the topic of quitting acting, but she emphasized that this time she is 'serious'. Blanchett, who has been awarded two Oscars for her roles in 'Blue Jasmine' and 'Aviator', has been a prominent figure in the film industry since her debut in the feature film 'Paradise Road' in 1997. The 55-year-old also spoke about her experiences as a celebrity and that even after decades in the industry, she still has not fully accustomed to the feelings associated with fame. 'In motion, I make more sense - it took a long time for me to get used to the idea of being photographed. I always felt like I was on the edge of things, so I'm always surprised when I belong somewhere. I approach every environment I find myself in with curiosity, without expecting to be accepted or welcomed,' explained the actress. Blanchett began her lucrative career on stage with the lead role of Felice Bauer in Tim Daly's 'Kafka Dances', for which she received the Newcomer Award from the Sydney Theatre Critics Circle in 1993. Blanchett admitted to having a great passion for theater productions and explained that she feels 'truly present' on stage. It was Blanchett's portrayal of Elizabeth I in Shekhar Kapur's 'Elizabeth' that made her a star. She later appeared in blockbuster films like 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Ocean's 8'. Most recently, Blanchett starred in the espionage drama 'Black Bag - Double Game' alongside Michael Fassbender, which received mixed reviews from critics.
