Coming out can be a difficult thing. That's why some celebrities wait until the end of their careers to reveal their sexuality. Here are six LGBTQ+ celebrities who came out after 30 years. Ellen DeGeneres made history in 1997 when she appeared on the cover of Time Magazine with the words "Yep, I'm gay." DeGeneres' coming out in 1997 and her subsequent marriage to Portia de Rossi have influenced the visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ+. After much speculation, Ricky Martin publicly came out in 2010. Since then, he has been married to Jwan Yosef, and the couple happily welcomed twins in 2008. Anderson Cooper came out in 2012 saying, "I'm gay, always have been (...), and I couldn't be happier feeling comfortable and proud of myself." In 2006, Neil Patrick Harris released a statement confirming his happiness as a gay man. Harris expressed his pride in dispelling rumors and living authentically. Ian McKellen came out after having a successful career. He felt motivated to speak out against the then homophobic legislation in the United Kingdom. Wanda Sykes came out during a rally for same-sex marriage, stating that this decision was made out of anger towards homophobic laws.
