The retrial of Harvey Weinstein in New York for rape ended in a mistrial after a dispute among the jurors interrupted deliberations. The jurors convicted Weinstein of sexual assault on Miriam Haley and acquitted him of assaulting Kaja Sokola. They could not agree on the third-degree rape of Jessica Mann, prompting Judge Curtis Farber to instruct them to continue deliberating. Tensions escalated during deliberations. One juror told the judge that another juror said, "We'll meet outside one day," and there was "shouting and yelling." Judge Farber sent the jurors home "to calm down" and instructed the foreman to return separately the next morning, but he did not return. "The deliberations became so heated that I feel compelled to declare a mistrial," Farber told the jurors in Manhattan Supreme Court. Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, testified that Weinstein raped her in a Manhattan hotel in 2013 after emotionally manipulating her for years. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison for the assault on Haley. He has already been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a rape in California, which he has not yet served. A hearing is scheduled for July 2 to decide whether the prosecution will refile charges against Weinstein for Mann's unresolved indictment.
