Sean "Diddy" Combs has achieved another legal victory after a judge dismissed a civil lawsuit accusing him of drugging and sexually assaulting a 23-year-old man at an afterparty in 2015. The lawsuit filed in February alleged that Combs drugged the man at QC's 20/20 Club in Los Angeles before groping him while he was in and out of consciousness. The judge ruled, however, that the lawsuit was filed too late under both New York and California law. Although New York extended the statute of limitations for sexual assault cases in 2019, the court stated that the law does not apply retroactively: "The plaintiff's 2025 lawsuit is still time-barred under New York law." The judge also rejected arguments based on the retroactive period in California. Combs' accuser, represented by attorney Tony Buzbee, vowed to keep fighting. "We will not allow Mr. Combs to escape a trial on the merits due to a technicality," Buzbee told Billboard, indicating that the case is likely to be refiled in California. This is the second dismissal for Combs this month. A federal judge dismissed a $60 million lawsuit by "Making the Band 2" contestant Sara Rivers due to expired deadlines. Both cases are among dozens of lawsuits filed against Combs in recent years, in addition to his high-profile criminal trial in federal court. Combs was acquitted of extortion and sex trafficking charges but convicted of two counts of transporting for prostitution. He remains in custody awaiting sentencing in October, which could result in several years in prison.
