A German court has convicted a 16-year-old boy for his involvement in planning a terrorist attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna in August 2024. The teenager, identified only as "Mohammad A." due to data protection laws, received an 18-month suspended sentence under juvenile criminal law. According to authorities, the Syrian citizen supported the main suspect by translating extremist materials, including bomb-making instructions and a pledge of allegiance to the Islamic State. Investigators revealed that the suspects planned to attack fans outside the Ernst Happel Stadium to "kill as many people as possible." The Austrian suspect allegedly stole chemicals from his workplace to make explosives and planned to drive into the crowd armed with knives and machetes. A third suspect, a 17-year-old employed by a company providing services to the venue, was also arrested after police found ISIS and Al-Qaeda propaganda material in his apartment. The trial of "Mohammad A." was held behind closed doors due to his age, but he is said to have made a full confession. Swift canceled three concerts in Vienna due to the threats and later described the experience as "devastating." She thanked the authorities for preventing a tragedy and praised the fans for their resilience and unity.
