After the death of Neo-Soul legend D'Angelo, whose genre-defining albums have influenced countless artists, numerous tributes have poured in from the entire music world. In a personal farewell letter, Lauryn Hill wrote: "Your undeniable beauty and talent were out of this world." Beyoncé honored D'Angelo on her website with the words: "We thank you for your beautiful music, your voice, your piano playing, your art." Justin Timberlake described in an Instagram post the moment he first heard D'Angelo's 'Brown Sugar' as "the most decisive moment when I gained confidence in my own voice." Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote on Instagram: "No one has been funkier in the last 30 years. I never knew him personally, but I bowed before his music." Missy Elliott called for prayers for D'Angelo's son on X: "Rest in peace, D'Angelo [...] pray for his son, who also lost his mother this year, may he find strength." In a detailed post, Tyler, the Creator recalled buying the album "Voodoo" at the age of nine: "I had no idea that this album would shape my musical DNA." Doja Cat referred to D'Angelo on X as "a true voice of the soul and inspiration for many brilliant artists of our and future generations."
