Horror Movie Scenes That Actually Scared the Actors

Horror movies are meant to scare the audience, but sometimes a scene is so intense that even the actors filming it actually get scared. Here are some horror movie scenes that truly terrified the actors on set... The cast of "Alien" had no idea what would happen during the infamous "Chestburster" scene (the chest bursting). Director Ridley Scott deliberately kept the gruesome special effects a secret, so the actors had to witness John Hurt's horrific death scene in real time. Veronica Cartwright later recalled in a 2009 interview with "The Guardian": "None of us expected it. It came out and wriggled around." The actors in "Scream" were genuinely unsettled by Roger Jackson, the voice behind Ghostface. Jackson was kept completely separate from the rest of the cast between takes, so the actors rarely saw him in person. "He remained completely incognito," producer Marianne Maddalena revealed to "The Hollywood Reporter" in 2020. She explained that this approach made the phone calls much more threatening - helping director Wes Craven capture real fear in the actors' performances. Janet Leigh was so disturbed after filming the famous shower scene in "Psycho" that she never showered again. In a 1984 interview with "Woman's World," Leigh revealed that she only took baths after the film. She even made sure to lock all doors and windows when taking a bath. JoBeth Williams was also deeply disturbed during the filming of the infamous pool scene in the film "Poltergeist" (1982). The skeletons used in the scene were actually real - something Williams didn't know at the time. She only learned the truth later and told "TV Land" in 2008: "The thought of it deeply creeped us all out."
