Fluminense made history in the United States by defeating the mighty Inter Milan and advancing to the Club World Cup quarterfinals. Through a 2-0 victory on Monday, June 30, at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, the Tricolor secured a spot in the next round. There, the Rio team will face Al Hilal, which surprisingly eliminated Manchester City. The match will take place on Friday (4th) at 9 pm in Orlando. In the second minute, Cano opened the scoring after a cross from Arias was deflected by Bastoni. The Tricolor team controlled the first half and even had another goal opportunity, which was disallowed. In the second half, Inter applied pressure, but Fabio made a brilliant save and Lautaro Martínez hit the post. In stoppage time, Hercules sealed the victory for Rio. Thus, Fluminense, alongside Palmeiras, is the only Brazilian representative in this competition.
