Red Bull Racing has dismissed team principal Christian Horner after 20 years, as announced by the team. Horner, who has been at the helm of the team since 2005, was the longest-serving team principal in Formula 1. His resignation came just a year after he was confronted with allegations of misconduct. "We would like to thank Christian Horner for his exceptional work over the past 20 years. With his tireless dedication, experience, expertise, and innovative thinking, he has significantly contributed to establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1," Red Bull said in a statement. In February 2024, Horner was accused by a colleague of "inappropriate, controlling behavior," but was later acquitted after an internal investigation. However, just one day after the acquittal of the 51-year-old, WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between the accuser and Horner were leaked to the media. The messages, many of which were of a sexual nature, were described by Horner as "anonymous speculations," who later demanded that the media should no longer "intrude into his family." During his time as team principal, Horner achieved eight drivers' championships and six constructors' championships, as well as 124 race wins and 287 podium finishes. The Briton, married to Spice Girl Geri, is the latest high-profile personality to leave Red Bull after the legendary designer Adrian Newey and the team's sporting director Jonathan Wheatley. Red Bull has also confirmed that the team has appointed Laurent Mekies as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing.
