A small car with a big impact: The new Epiq—Škoda’s entry-level model for electric mobility—has been honored with the ‘Best in Class Award 2027’ in a competition organized by the specialist publication *electricar* and the *Institut Neue Mobilität* (Institute for New Mobility). The Epiq outperformed nine competitors to win the category for ‘Best Electric Car – Subcompact/Small Car.’ In 2026, for the third time, approximately 2,000 readers and a jury of experts were invited to select the best electric models across all vehicle classes. With this win, the Epiq follows in the footsteps of the Škoda Elroq, which was named ‘Best Electric Car – Family’ the previous year, while also securing the top spot in the ‘Compact Class.’ The publication *electricar* and the *Institut Neue Mobilität* established the ‘Best in Class Award’ with the goal of identifying and recognizing the top vehicles in their respective categories. This year marks the third time the award has been presented, with around 100 vehicles or brands in the running. Nominees were identified using the *electricar* editorial team’s database, with all electric models available in Germany evaluated based on their technical specifications. Key criteria included list price, powertrain, energy consumption, charging speed, and range. Additionally, manufacturers were able to submit their own nominations in categories such as ‘Design,’ ‘Family,’ ‘City,’ ‘Newcomer,’ and ‘Best Global Brand.’ Four weeks prior to the final decision, a panel of experts selected the finalists from the full list of nominees. This year’s panel of experts included, for example, Armin Grasmuck, editor-in-chief of ‘electricar’; Harald Gutzelnig; Mathias Groher, Managing Director of the Institute for New Mobility (Institut Neue Mobilität); Professor Johann Tomforde, Managing Director of Teammobility GmbH; and Christoph Knogler, CEO of Keba Group AG. Two jury members represented the readers. During the final meeting, held at the Chair of Automotive Technology at the Technical University of Munich, the expert jury selected the winners and runners-up following extensive deliberations. Based on specific vehicle data and selected by a high-caliber panel of experts, the ‘Best in Class Award 2027’ serves as a significant endorsement for Škoda’s new model in the small car segment. The ‘Best in Class Award 2027’ was presented on October 16, 2026, during the e4 Testival at the Hockenheimring.
