A new study has crowned Detroit Metropolitan Airport as the most luxurious airport in the USA – much to the surprise of many travelers who associate first-class amenities more with New York or Los Angeles. Detroit scored 73.56 points, taking the top spot in shopping with 85 stores and in luxury lounges with 63 offerings. It also ranked second in the availability of fine dining restaurants. Travel by Luxe evaluated the top US airports based on five factors: share of fine dining offerings, average price for a meal, shopping opportunities, number of luxury lounges, and availability of private suites. LAX airport secured the second spot, offering attractive private suites and shopping despite having the highest average dinner cost nationwide at $50. Chicago O'Hare ranks fifth but leads the country with 71 private suites, providing travelers with quiet spaces for privacy or productive work. Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta boasts 17 luxury lounges and 51 private suites, while Reagan National Airport has 22 lounges but only a single private suite. Denver ranks tenth due to its 62.5% fine dining availability and 35 shopping options, followed by Miami and Houston. Las Vegas' Harry Reid Airport lands at 16th place, featuring 21 lounges and suites but few fine dining choices. Major hubs like JFK, Austin, and Baltimore are at the bottom of the list – a sign that size and fame do not automatically guarantee luxurious amenities.
