Minnesota, United States - July 12, 2026: Minnesota Governor Tim Walz declared a peacetime emergency on July 12, 2026, activating the Minnesota National Guard to support aerial operations for wildfire suppression in the northern part of the state. The move aims to enhance aerial firefighting efforts and relieve civilian authorities involved in the ongoing operations. On July 13, 23 members of the Minnesota National Guard supported the mission with four UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. The aircraft and their crews relocated their operational base to Orr city airport, from where they conducted their missions, continuing the aerial firefighting efforts. The Minnesota National Guard stated that they remain "Always ready, Always there" to protect lives, preserve property, and support Minnesota's communities and civilian authorities. This underscores their commitment to being rapidly deployable in extraordinary situations and contributing to hazard mitigation in coordination with local response teams.
