Three beaches across Monmouth County, New Jersey were closed to the public on July 10 due to high levels of fecal bacteria in the water. The three beaches in Highlands, Sea Girt and Belmar were shown to have high levels of enterococcus, a bacteria whose presence indicates the water could be contaminated by human or animal waste.
