The targeted cyberattack on IT service provider Collins Aerospace and the resulting disruptions at several international airports illustrate the high vulnerability of digital infrastructures in aviation. Even though German airports remained largely unaffected, the incident demonstrates how quickly individual weaknesses along complex supply chains can lead to international disruptions. "This incident shows how quickly individual weaknesses along complex supply chains can lead to international disruptions. It is a wake-up call for the entire industry," commented Dr. Giovanni Prestifilippo, Cyber Security Working Group Leader at the GATE Association. The GATE Cyber Security Working Group closely monitors such incidents. "We stand for a resilient, interconnected, and security-conscious airport IT - this includes in particular the consistent integration of cybersecurity requirements throughout the entire value chain, from OEMs to software providers to airport operators," Prestifilippo added.
